It is a positively charged heterocyclic molecule structurally related to quinolinium derivatives. Mechanism of Action 5-Amino-1MQ acts as a potent and selective inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme highly expressed in adipose tissue, liver, and certain metabolically active cells. NNMT catalyses the transfer of a methyl group from S–adenosylmethionine (SAM) to nicotinamide, producing 1–methylnicotinamide and S–adenosylhomocysteine (SAH).
